The Local Teller Showcase features some of our area’s favorite tellers: Linda Dust, Mary McCormack Deka, and Erica Eis.
Linda Dust says that the stories she enjoys the most are the ones that also include music and ballads. She finds that each new story brings new understanding of the traditions of the cultures that have produced these marvelous tales. She has performed in such diverse places as public libraries, schools, service organization banquets, festivals and even at a club in New York City’s Greenwich Village.
Mary McCormack Deka is inspired by everything—oceans and forests, sardines and tangerines, stained glass and kizomba dancing. She loves to travel, read, write, and tell stories. Just ask her about the time she took a ferry to the Knoydart Peninsula in Scotland and ended up staying with a shepherd and his friend, hiking in borrowed welly boots, and feeding two little lambs (just like in the song).
Erica Eis has always enjoyed taking in and sharing stories. Just ask and she’s more than happy to tell you about the latest book she read, discuss what makes a good TV show or movie, or debate the story held in a piece of music. She hopes you enjoy the stories she shares at the festival, and looks forward to listening to your own should you like to share.
